Launching your publication

So, you are launching a magazine – that's great news! Whatever stage you are at on this road, you will need a reliable and experienced art director by your side. We will look closely at the choices you need to make for your title.

You will need to provide me with information such as:

  • Do you have a mission statement?

  • A clear understanding of the 'why' of your title.

  • Reader demographic: who is your target audience?

  • Will your magazine be for sale in shops and have to compete with other titles on the news stand?

  • What format your publication will take?

  • What quality of paper will you use? 

  • What binding do you want for your title? 

  • How much advertising plays a part in your title.

  • What editorial sections your magazine will have?

Using the detailed information you provide me, I will be able to create a visual that is suitable for your publication. Giving your magazine a new look

If you already have a publication in print, but feel it's time for a change to the title, then proceeding carefully is of the utmost importance. Does your magazine just need a refresh, or does it need a more focused approach for your readers? I will work with you to navigate the choices you have to be sure you don't upset any existing readership – people are not great with change. So, we will assess things such as the masthead, paper, editorial sections and how hard they are working, ideas for new sections to engage or educate, advertiser's needs, how you are distributed and a whole host of other considerations.
